AAC Accommodations for People with CVI

Cortical/Cerebral Vision Impairment (CVI) is a neurological disorder affecting vision, thus affecting the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). AAC for individuals with CVI requires customization and should be designed specifically for the individual. In this session, we will provide a general overview of CVI and discuss current treatment methods as they apply to AAC. We will review the new Guide to AAC Accommodations for People with CVI created by TobiiDynavox to help individuals supporting those with CVI customize their AAC systems including tips in TD Snap. Recommendations are based on published research and insights from experts with clinical experience, individuals with CVI, and their family/caregivers. Presenter: Erin Levy, MA CCC-SLP,Clinical Assistive Communication Specialist at Tobii Dynavox.
