Assess

New to AAC assessment and device prescription? No idea where to start? It can feel overwhelming, but the process starts with understanding the individual and getting to know them. Begin by learning about their communication needs, goals, interests, and expectations. Involve the person as much as possible, gathering input from their communication partners about their needs across different environments. Consider goals around communication, computer access, environmental control, recreation, and social networking. Observe the individual in various settings and assess the strategies used by communication partners. Collaborate with the occupational and physiotherapists to evaluate access methods and positioning.
