How do I know which system or device is right for an individual? There are so many out there!
You’ve done the first step, gathering information about the individual’s communication and access needs. Now, you can start comparing different devices, looking at things like hardware, software and vocabulary layouts/page sets. It is important to do a full feature matching assessment of two or more AAC systems. It is important to consider personal preference and ease of use for the individual and their communication partners. Sometimes, there may be trade-offs, so consider which features are most important. Also, don’t forget to consider no-tech and low-tech options as part of your assessment as these may be more suited to certain environments and form part of the individual’s multimodal communication system.
If you’d like support in exploring the Tobii Dynavox range, our Assistive Technology Consultants are happy to help, either in person or via telehealth, at no cost to you.
